The Villa Tuscolana is situated in Frascati, south-east of Rome's metropolitan area.

Frascati, known as the "pearl" of the Castelli Romani, is built on the site of ancient Roman villas, including Cicero’s, and the former suburb of the Latin city of Tusculum.

From the late 16th century, Frascati became a prestigious retreat for the Roman nobility, who commissioned grand villas designed by architects such as Bernini, Borromini, and Maderno. During the 18th and early 19th centuries, it was a key stop on the Grand Tour, attracting writers like Goethe, Stendhal, and Mark Twain.

The opening of the Rome-Frascati railway in 1856, the first in Lazio, boosted trade and tourism. However, World War II devastated the city with heavy Allied bombing in 1943.

After the war's reconstruction, Frascati became a central European research hub, hosting institutions like INFN, ENEA, and ESA. Frascati is renowned for its history, stunning landscapes and architecture.
