DESCRIPTION:First EPOS Summer School\n\n23-27 June 2025 – Espai Cràter
  – Olot\, Spain\n\nThe first EPOS Summer School focuses on geoscience r
esearch data and their practical applications. The programme offers a com
prehensive exploration of Research Data Management in the context of geosc
iences\, starting with foundational concepts and progressing to essential
yet often challenging topics such as legislation\, licensing\, and persist
ent identifiers.\n\nA key highlight will be using and processing multidisc
iplinary data\, particularly within the EPOS Platform. Participants will l
earn to design workflows for managing and sharing data in an open-science
environment\, including data discovery\, processing\, and leveraging Jupyt
er Notebook technology.\n\nWith a pragmatic approach\, the EPOS Summer Sch
ool aims to equip participants with actionable knowledge and skills they c
an immediately apply to their research. Ample space in the programme is de
dicated to hands-on sessions and group work\, allowing participants to tes
t their skills using real-world use cases\, including a selection of those
presented by themselves.\n\nThe programme also provides space for reflect
ion and group discussions\, addressing challenges and benefits of open sci
ence and FAIR data and demystifying common misconceptions. Recognizing the
diverse backgrounds and ICT proficiency of participants as an added value
for the EPOS Summer School\, groups will be thoughtfully organized to com
bine complementary skills\, fostering collaboration and enhancing real-wor
ld teamwork capabilities.\n\nWho should apply?\n\nThe EPOS Summer School i
s an intensive programme designed for PhD students and candidates\, pos
tdocs and Early Career Scientists from different geoscience domains and
communities\, whose daily research work builds upon multidisciplinary data
.\n\nNo previous knowledge of the subject is required. Basics of computer
programming would be an advantage.\nApplicants should propose an inter- or
trans-disciplinary Use Case /Scientific question. Use cases don't necess
arily have to be complete\, as one of the objectives of the school is to h
elp develop (some of) the participants’ Use Cases.\n\nHow to apply\n\n\n
Apply by completing the online form before 21 April. Make sure you descr
ibe your scientific use case and you let us know why you would like to att
end the school.\n	 \n	Participation is free of charge. Travel and accommo
dation costs should be covered by your organisation. In case you do not ha
ve a travel budget\, you can apply for an EPOS ON Project travel grant wh
en you fill the application form. \n	 \n	The EPOS Summer School programm
e committee will review the applications and prioritise them on the basis
of the relevance and quality of the proposed scientific use cases. Gende
r balance\, geographical provenance and representation of different backgr
ounds will also be a factor in the prioritisation.\n	 \n	All applicants w
ill be notified of the result of their application before the end of May 2
025.\n\n\nEPOS is firmly dedicated to advancing diversity\, equality and i
nclusion in every training opportunity we offer. We invite registrations f
rom individuals of diverse ethnicities\, cultural and religious background
s\, genders\, sexual orientations\, and at all stages of their careers.\n\
n\nThe First EPOS Summer School is organised in the framework of the EPOS
ON Project\, funded in the Horizon Europe programme under Grant Agreement
